How does learning about medications that we do not administer as part of our RT (respiratory therapist) scope of practice help us in the field?

Answer #1

Respiratory Therapists support practitioners with the administration of prescriptions throughout diagnostic and corrective methods and client transit. By learning about medications the RT's will be able to:

  • understand the medications, its side effects, adverse effects, how to respond to it while on practice.
  • document the medications taken by the client before, during, or after the procedure.
  • identify if the client’s worsening clinical situation could be due to the effects of the medication given.

As a society it seems as if we are more interested in taking a pill to decrease symptoms rather than going to therapy. No? If so, is this a good thing? What are your thoughts about this debate (Therapy vs. Medication)?   In this post, make sure...

What do you think about military personnel learning an ancient form of navigation after relying on state-of-the-art technology for generations? Do you think this practice will continue? Are there other traditional skills that would be useful to know if technology doesn’t work (in the military, home, and society)? What skills are we currently using (e.g. handwriting) that are also being phased out? Is this a good thing for our society or are there unseen consequences?
