RBC: abnormalities of size(microcytes, macrocytes), shape(spherocytes, eliptocytes, spiculated RBC,spur cells, burr cells, fragmented cells), color(hypochromasia, hyperchromasia), intracellular components such as cytoplasm and nucleus(normoblast, heinz bodies, dimorphic cells, howell jolly bodies, basophilc stippling).

2. WBC: abnormalities of number(leukocytosis), differential count(leukemia), maturity (bone marrow depression).

If you observed an average of 14 platelets per high power field on a peripheral blood smear prepared from the needle tip and your laboratory allowed correlation between the direct instrument count and the blood smear estimate of 20%, what range would you expect the instrument count to be? Is this platelet estimate within an acceptable reference range? It is generally believed that only 7% of the population has type O-negative blood (the universal donor). A blood bank is expecting 1000 donors at its upcoming drive. Use the empirical rule (68%-95%-99.7% Rule) to determine what proportion of O-negative donors you might expect to see in the 1000 donors (I'm not looking for the number of O-negative donors, just the proportion). Assume conditions are met!  No need to draw the model, though if you find it easier to do so...

The distribution of blood cholesterol level in the population of all male patients 20–34 years of age tested in a large hospital over a 10-year period is close to Normal with standard deviation σ = 48 mg/dL (milligrams per deciliter). At your clinic, you measure the blood cholesterol of 14 male patients in that age range. The mean level for these 14 patients is x̄ = 180 mg/dL. Assume that σ is the same as in the general male hospital...
