Mary Shelley published her novel Frankenstein in 1818. Frankenstein tells the story of a scientist who creates an intelligent but terrifying creature in a laboratory experiment and then is tortured by what he has done. The story is infused with elements of Gothic horror and is representative of the Romantic movement. Some suggest that Frankenstein should be considered the first true science fiction story. However, while the usage of science and technology is a primary theme of the science fiction genre, a facet of that there is the explanation of the technology. No scientific explanation for the monster's creation is ever given, Frankenstein focuses heavily on the moral issues and consequences of creating such a beast, themes far more representative of the Gothic novel.

For this purpose Author gives the introduction to the novel, shortly describes the criteria for science fiction novel and a Gothic Horror novel. Then concludes that the novel is a Gothic Horror .

The other options are wrong:

Option B: To describe the elements of science fiction  

Even though author describes it in thr passage. His aim is to present about the novel ' Frankenstein ', no the elements of science fiction genre.
