Patient History:

A 45 year old female presents to the ED with complaint of a 2 hour history of right sided facial droop, clear speech and no muscular weakness. Pt states she has no Hx of medical problems except controlled hypertension.

BP 160/90   HR. 88    RR 22   O2 Sat 98%   Temp: 98.6 Oral

Where would you place him after triage is completed & why? (waiting room, monitored bed, non-monitored bed)

What do you anticipate doing for him once he is in a bed/room? (tests, any nursing actions)

What do you think his medical problem is & how did you arrive at that conclusion?

• Place the patient in monitored bed as the patiet has hypertension and now his BP is 160/90 is above the normal range.other vital signs within normal limits.
• Nursing actions are the following:
• Reassure the patient it is type of facial palsy(Bell's palsy) and spontaneosly recover within 3-5weeks.
• Teaching eye care are cover eye witb protective shield at night . Apply eye ointment to keep eye lid during sleep.
• His medical problem is Bell's palsy (7th cranial nerve)caused by viral infection, diabetes or hypertension . Here patient has right sided facial dropping and no muscle weakness.
