(B)During manufacturing attuned vaccine , why we should maintain the antigenicity of the microorganism?
Live attenuated vaccine is produced by keeping the pathogen viable and by reducing its virulence. Virulence is defined as the ability to produce an infection in a host. Antigenicity is the ability of the immune system to produce an immune response (antibodies) against a particular organism. Live attenuated vaccine are less virulent[they cannot cause an infection) but they should be powerful enough to create antibodies(antigenicity). If the vaccine doesnt have adequate power to produce antigenicity, then it is waste administering the live attenuated vaccine as it will not give protection against the disease.
