Nursing diagnosis :-
Risk for electrolyte imbalance
Goal :-
Patient will sustain normal serum electrolyte balance as evidenced by potassium level of 3.5 to 5.1 mEq / L
Nursing interventions :-
Monitor intake and output closely. If urine output starts to decrease, notify doctor immediately .
Closely monitor the patient for any EKG changes , muscle weakness, hyperreflexia
After the administration of potassium, serum potassium must be obtained within 30 - 60 minutes and do not repeat until the result is obtained from lab and the physician is notified.
Document on appropriate medication record.
