The first six hours of pueperium is the most important and crucial hours for a mother after delivering a baby or after child birth. This is called as acute phase

The systematic management and care activities which has to be applied in these hours are

  • Monitoring the patient for postnatal bleeding
  • Meticulous hand hygiene and aseptic procedure to be performed to prevent postnatal infection
  • Acute pain can raise in case of episiotomy wound, surgical incision to be managed by administration of proper analgesics
  • Breast tenderness ,engorgement can occur if the child is not initiated breastfeeding within half an hour of birth. This can result in severe pain ,fever and even infection .So it has to be managed by initiating breast feeding rather earliest.
  • Uterine massage helps the fungus of the uterus to conract well after the delivery of placenta
