. Hypothetical situation to develop an essay:
As a requirement of the Community course, you are part of a team of
healthcare professionals assigned to assess the needs of residents
of a mental health home. The community is a diverse one in ages
where people over 60 years old predominate. Within your work plan
with the other health professionals, consider the aspects of health
promotion and prevention and include the ethical-legal elements to
intervene with this population.
The needs that have been identified are the following:
• Overcrowding
• Sedentary life
• Physiological diseases such as diabetes and hypertension
Considers the needs identified in the community for the content of the essay
With the rise in population and technological advancement , the need for mental health care homes have also increased. Other members along with me was assigned to check the quality of the mental health home. We made a unexpected visit to the home on 14/8/2020,to assess and to evaluate the quality of the home.
Physical appearance.
The physical setup of the home looks clean. But the home has accommodated more people than its actual number. It is slightly over populated as result of which the members finds it difficult to find personal space.resources are limied.
Staffing.
Workers are limited to mmet all their needs.
Nutritional needs.
The nutritional needs of the clients are inadequately met. Many have developed lifestyle diseases. Diet plan can be made and special diets can be provided.
Lifestyle.
They all follow a sedentary lifestyle. Yoga classes can be started, a gym can be setup inside by extending the number of floors. Small indoor games can be included.
Feedback.
Their is presently no feedback system available. A feedback box to kept and changes could be made periodically.
Since mentally ill are one of the vulnerable people of the society, they need to be cared with caution. The mental health laws need to be followed. The abuse of mentally ill are punishable offence.
