Homework Answers

Answer #1

Given,

ordered 2/3 strength Jevity 900ml via PEG tube to infuse over 8 hours.

Volume of jevity in each can =900 ml

Strength= 2/3

Infusion time=8 hours

Total volume of solution =volume of jevity in each can/strength

=900 ml/2/3

=900×3/2 ml

=1350 ml

So, volume of water is to be added =total volume of solution - volume of jevity in each can

=(1350-900) ml

=450 ml

Flow rate(ml/hr) = total volume of solution/ infusion time in hour

=1350 ml/8 hr

=168.75 ml/hr

Hence, 450 ml of water should be added to prepare this solution of strength 2/3 . Flow rate should be 168.75 ml/hr or 169 ml /hr ( rounded to nearest whole number)
