Personal safety risks associated with nursing practice are
1. Needle stick injury (NSI) : Nurses are at greatest risk of NSI which may lead to infections/illness transmitted via blood because of Exposure to blood & body fluid . Proper training , improved skills ,adequate staff , rest between shifts may decrease workplace load and fatigue thereby decrease NSI.
2. Infectious diseases: Nursing care involves close monitoring and care of patients, so are at risk of getting the same infection. Adequate Personal protective equipment (PPE) should be used before providing nursing care. It protects nurses during outbreaks like Ebola and COVID-19.
