Serum potassium and creatinine monitoring is recommended for patient prescribed ACE inhibitors.

High potassium level is a possible complication of ACE inhibitors due to its effect on aldosterone. There is an decrease in aldosterone level due to suppression of angiotensin II. Since aldosterone is responsible for excretion of excess potassium,ace inhibitors can cause retention of potassium.

ACE inhibitors causes decrease in GFR and thereby alter kidney function.so ace inhibitors are used cautiously in renal patients.
