Calculate the amount of dextrose and sodium chloride in the following IV solution.(* I know how to calculate the dextrose but I dont get the sodium chloride. Please provide the answer in the way that's easy to understand, thanks alot*)

0.5 L D5 1/4 NS

Dextrose ----------- g

NaCl ------------- g

Homework Answers

Answer #1

In D5 1/4 NS,each 100 ml contains 5 grams of dextrose and 0.225 grams of sodium chloride ,the total volume of fluid is 0.5 liter[500 ml]

Calculation of Dextrose,

set a proportion then cross multiply,

5grams/100ml = X /500ml

X =50 x500 /100 =25

500 ml contains 25 grams of Dextrose

Same calculation for 1/4 NS

0.225grams /100ml = X / 500 ml

X =0.225 x 500 / 100 = 1.125 grams

500 ml contains 1.125 grams of Sodium chloride

ANSWER is, Dextrose -25 grams, NaCl-1.125 grams

A weighed amount of sodium chloride is completely dissolved in a measured volume of 4.00 M ammonia solution at ice temperature, and carbon dioxide is bubbled in. Assume that sodium bicarbonate is formed until the limiting reagent is entirely used up. The solubility of sodium bicarbonate in water at ice temperature is 0.75 mol per liter. Also assume that all the sodium bicarbonate precipitated is collected and converted quantitatively to sodium carbonate The mass of sodium chloride in (g) is...
