What are you learning as a student in NSG 100 that you can use to address an ethical dilemma?
As a student in NSG 100, I am learning about all the virtues and theories about how to address an ethical dilemma. But in our profession there are some factors to consider with utmost priority while address an ethical dilemma. For example we have been taught that to respect patient's autonomy and beneficence. While making an ethical decision these two factors can help us in taking the right decision in the situation. Apart form these two we also have some obligations for our patient as a responsible healthcare personal like fidelity, veracity, justice and nonmaleficence.
I have also learnt that apart from these obligations, our values, attitudes, and beliefs also play a crucial role in ethical decision making. As a human being, we do have concern for welfare and well-being of others and it is our sole responsibilty to value human dignity and uphold the moral, ethical, and legal principles.
Other than these there are also some theories like utilitarianism, deontology, virtue ethics and principlism that we are being taught and which can apparently help us in making the right ethical decision depending on the particular situation or condition.
