Blood is composed of main composed of 2 components, one is plasma which constitutes around 55 percent and another component is cellular component like RBCs, WBCs and platelets.

Plasma is mainly composed of water, it almost constitutes 90 percent of plasma. Around 7 of plasma is made of protein and remaining is made electrolytes.

Plasma tubes are used for collection of plasma for further biochemical investigation.

Some of the plasma tube contains different anticoagulant and additive which prevents collected blood not to get clotted.

Like Red colour plasma tube contains no anticoagulant. This kind of tubes are used in serology and immunological test.

Then grey colour plasma tube has fluoride oxalate as anticoagulant. This tube is used for blood glucose estimation.

Then yellow colour plasma tube has Anticoagulant citrate dextrose ( ACD ) solution and this is used for paternity testing and DNA testing.
