1- Who is easier to ventilate? A patient with decreased compliance or increased compliance? Why?
2-Would you place someone with an oxygenation problem on a ventilator immediately?
Answer 1: In the case of the decreased compliance, the lungs have disease such as pulmonary edema or pneumonia. In these cases, there is the obstruction to the airways causes increased resistance.
Whereas in the case of the increased compliance, the tissues which are elastic in nature gets damaged. This causes high compliance rate. It occurs usually in the case of diseases such as in emphysema.
So, patient with decreased compliance can be kept to the ventilator easily to provide sufficient amount of oxygen.
