Yes it effectively describe the scene..
Taking a ride meaning doing something new, or a bit risky.
And the plot is based on it.
The strongest in writing is the emotional part abt them being able to take decision to take risk.
It did not describe his whole feelings in detail, like you can't feel the thrill that he must be feeling. In another words writer didn't described the thrill properly and thus its his mistake as taking a ride based on it mainly.
Taking is ride is trying something new with being open about it. Not everyone is able to do that. Its Tough.
Everybody wants a life settled, free from risk and also are resistant to try new things. Its giving a lesson on it.
