Different Cultures and its impact on healh and community service:
The customs , lifestyle , arts , habits and back grounds that characterize a particular society or nation, is collectively called as a culture. Cultural beliefs and practices aftect health practices and and health services considerably.
Italian Culture:
Italy is a country in southern Europe , one of the states of the European union . It has a wide history of mixed ethnicities like Roman, Jews, Greeks etc invaded Italy at different times of history. But the majority of people are ethnically Italian.
a) Religion : Most of the Italians are Roman Catholics. Other than Christians, few Jews and Muslims are there in the country. The religious beliefs supports the Healthcare services and facilities. Many Holyplaces and shrines in the country are the attractive tourist locations, that generates income for the country. Arabic and Greek influences are there in the traditional beliefs of the Italy such as Evil eye, messages through dreams , Witches and antiwitches , observation of omens etc.
b) Family: Loyalty to the family is having a great importance in the country. Divorces were forbidden until recent years . The men are the head of the family and women are considered as the soul of the family. Good children are expected to obey parents and doesn't disgrace family. Physical punishment of children is commonly seen in the country.
c) Food: Food is having a special place in Italian culture. Whoever enters a home from outside will receive a food or drink of the Italian taste. Food indicates the relationship between two families , person etc. Pasta is a commonly seen item. Wine is usually served with meals. Italian cuisine is having a great place among the different cuisines of the countries around the world .
d) Health care: Many of the Italian places were the centers of Medical study during the medieval time . It had the traditions of ' healing hands ' , those who practiced healing of soreness and broken bones etc and Potion- makers , people who make small portions or dose of liquid which is medicinal , poisonous or magical. Currently Italy is having many number of modern hospitals and Doctors and specialists who practice scientific medicine. Many social welfare and Change programmes are running in the coutry.
Vietnamese Culture: A country in Southeast Asia , on the East coast of the Indochina Peninsula .
a ) Religion : Half of the Vietnamese are not belong to any religion and remaining half consists of Buddhists and Christians. Many people migrated to other countries due to war . Buddhist believe in rebirths.
b) Etiquette: They bow their heads in respect to elders and are not supposed to look into the eyes of the elderly or superior person while talking. Speaking in a louder voice in an angry manner is offensive and disrespectful behaviour in Vietnamese culture. Health workers should aware about these confrontations . Respect others is the main element in establishing the social interactions.
c) Social culture: They are very polite and delicate . They tend to hide their fears or true feelings. Speaking frankly may hurt them. Hospitality and Food are having a good importance in the culture.
d) Health beliefs: They believe disease caused by the work of evil spirits, and some are supporting the germ theory of disease. Steaming, pinching , cupping , coining are some of the traditional practices to getrod of the diseases. Women rarely take extra calories or drink milk during pregnancy. They often avoid breast examination or pap test due to embarrassment and fear of invasion to privacy. Most of the Vietnamese is supporting the modern medicine currently due to increased literacy and education.
Sudanese culture:
Sudan is a country in the North east Africa.
Food: Millet is the main foid item in Sudanese diet . Meat is consumed only occasionally as it is more expensive.
Religion: Most of the Sudanese are Muslims and 5 % population are Christians. Animism is still practiced in traditional indigenous groups . Evil eye beliefs are common in Sudan also. They used to toe certain ritual amulet around wrist or body.
Gender status: Men is having a dominant role in the society and is patriarchal in nature . Women is having a lesser status and majority are confined to home and only in women's gathering they meet each othet. Men are mainly Partcipating in social events.
Healthcare programmes: Many socia welfare programmes are run by Governmental and Non governmental organisations.
example: World food programme, Oxford committee for famine relief, Save the children Fund and also many programmes run by WHO saves many children and individuals from health disparities and small pox like communicable diseases.
Free Medical services are provided by the Government to the public. Malnutrition and communicable diseases are common in Sudan .
