You are working 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. it is now 1:05 p.m. and Mr. Bishop rings to tell you that he is nauseated, a new development and that has right lower quadrant pain just Escalated Suddenly to a 10. He tells you that he must have something for pain now. You assesses abdomen and find that is flat and not distended; he guards when you palpate and then release hand lressure applied over the RLQ area where he states he hurts the most.
symptoms of appendicitis are,
pain in lower right belly
loss of appetite
nausea and vomitting
swollen belly
fever of 99 -102 degrees
can't pass gas
HOW TO RULE OUT APPENDICITIS
Apply gentle pressure on painful area .when pressure is suddenly released ,appendicitis pain will often feel worse,which shoes that adjacent peritoneum is inflamed.
check for abdominal rigidity and atendency to stiffen abdominal muscles in response to pressure over inflamed appendix (guarding)
check for elevated white bllod count - it is common with appendicitis
some docters perform urine test to make sure that pain is not related to kidney stone or UTI
Xray ,abdominal ultrasound ,computerized tomography (CT) scan or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are helpful for confirming the diagnosis
TREATMENT is appendectomy
