case study write an essay
James is a 21-year-old man. He has a history of growing up with family violence and as a result he spent a lot of time in foster care and residential homes. He is Aboriginal but does not know much about his heritage and is having some identity issues. He has recently left foster care and is getting pressure from his friends to engage more in alcohol and drugs. He is not sure what is next for him, he doesn’t have a job and feels overwhelmed about life.

Consider the following:

What are the issues for James?

What can be done here for James if he attended your place of work & you were asked to assist him?

Who can help? What services can help James and how could James be encouraged to engage with these services?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

1. James is depicted as a confused youngster without a job. He has a history of growing up with family violence and as a result, he spent a lot of time in foster care and residential homes. He is Aboriginal but does not know much about his heritage and is having some identity issues. He has recently left foster care and is getting or pressure from his friends to engage more in alcohol and drugs.

2. If he attended my place of work, he will be given counseling and friendly advice to stay away from drugs. At my workplace, we have a community to fight against vices like drug abuse, which helps to bring out the best in confused people with identity issues and make them confident enough to face the world and help others.

3. His colleagues, friends, and counselors can help him to be part of the mainstream. Community groups, mental health support groups, etc can help James. He should be given hints about these groups by his close friends and one of them should offer help to go with him and take him to these services.
