Expected Pharmacological Action: vincristine shows its action by the inhibition of microtubule formation in the place of mitotic spindle which results in the arrest of cell division specially at the metaphase stage.
Therapeutic Use: in the case of acute leukemia, rhabdomyosarcoma,multiple myeloma, thyroid and brain cancers.
Complications: weight loss, abdominal cramps, hair loss, loss of appetite, constipation.
Contraindications/Precautions: vincristine contraindications in case of pregnancy and breastfeeding, in hepatic impairment and thrombocytopenia.
Interactions:
Medication Administration: vincristine interactions with phenytoin causing the ototoxicity, also have interaction with atropine and dicylomine
Nursing Interventions: monitoring of the weight , BP and body temperature at regular basis
Patient Education: patient is advised to immediately report if any case of neurotoxicity. also the patient is advised to increase the fluid intake and fibre intake and increase excercise.
Evaluation of medication effectiveness: vincristine effectiveness by the assessment of the cytotoxicity and minimized side effects as the planned therapy
