Expected Pharmacological Action:
- The working is due to double-strand DNA damage produced during DNA synthesis, when replication enzymes interact with the ternary complex formed by topotecan, topoisomerase I, and DNA.
- kills the cancer cells & slows the disease progression.
Therapeutic use:
- Uses in small cell lung cancer
Complications:
- Toxicity includes bone marrow suppression, gastrointestinal complaints (diarrhea, nausea, constipation), stomatitis, and fatigue.
Contraindications and precautions:
- Hypersensitivity to hycamtin
Interactions:
- Avoid coadministration with Amoidarone, Acalabrutinib, Amoxicillin, claritromycin.
Medication administration:
- Recommended dose for injection is 1.5 mg/m2 by intravenous infusion over 30 minutes daily for 5 consecutive days, starting on Day 1 of a 21-day cycle until disease progression or unacceptable toxicity.
