1.These terms refer to flexion between the hand and the body's dorsal surface,which in anatomical position is considered the back of the arm and flexion between the hand and the body's palmar surface which in anatomical position is considered the anterior side of the arm.There are 12 types of joint positions.They are;
Flexion & Extension,abduction & adduction,circumduction,rotation,supination & pronation,dorsiflexion & plantar flexion,inversion & eversion,protraction & retraction.
2. PASSIVE RANGE OF MOTION :- Therapist or equipment moves the joint through the range of motion with no effort from the patient.
ACTIVE RANGE OF MOTION :- Patient performs the exercise to move the joint without any assisstance to the muscles surrounding the joint.
ACTIVE ASSISSTIVE RANGE OF MOTION :- Is described as a joint receiving partial assisstance from an outside force.This range of motion may result from the majority of motion applied by an exerciser or by the person or person assissting the individual.It also may be a half and half effort on the joint from each source.
