Acute illness or injury suddenly occurs with a rapid onset , an illness of short duration , and in need of urgent care. In acute illness nurse provides advanced care to patients suffering brief but severe illness.

Patients with chronic conditions often benefited from follow-up visits by nurses. Visits should be multiple , extended over a long term , and interventions are individualized .
