The nurse is preparing a client for a paracentesis. The client asks the nurse how the fluid will be removed. What is nurse’s best response?
Paracentesis is a procedure to remove extra fluid from your abdomen. After you change into hospital gown you will be brought into the procedure room and helped on to procedure table. Your nurse may place an iv catheter into your vein , through which you will receive fluids and medication. You will be attached to a monitor where your vital signs such as BP,temperature, pulse and respiration can be observed. Yo will be positioned. Your abdomen will be cleaned and will give you anaesthasia. Once the are is numb, a needle will be inserted to abdomen , then a catheter at the puncture site, the catheter is then connected to a bottle, thefluid from your abdomen is drained through the catheter to the bottle. Once the fluid is over, the catheter will be removed and puncture site will be closed.
