A nurse manager promotes and restores patient's health by developing day-to-day management and long-term planning of the patient care , directing and developing staff, collaborating with physicians and other professional staff and providing physical and psychological support for patients and families.

Role of Nurse manager on daily basis :-

1. Interpersonal Activities or roles

It is crucial for nurse manager to have interpersonal skills in achieving organization’s goal .

Figurehead

- Personnel participation in healthcare management   by conducting group meetings to resolve the relevant problems of patients ,staffs, healthcare units etc.

Leader

-  Embodies the vision, mission, and values of the unit with staff.

-Motivates staff to strive for professional excellence

-Improves the quality of care by supervision of staffs .

- Monitoring the needs in the units regarding facilities , existing equipments etc.

- Considering the needs of employees to create motivation and enhance job satisfaction.

- Planning & Conducting training programs

- Education programs for nursing students and trainees

- Monitoring & Evaluating the services rendered by the staffs .

- Obtaining feedbacks and responses of healthcare services .

Liaison

- Maintaining amity between staff , patients and other healthcare providers within the unit.

- Coordinating and collaborating the services of the unit with other departments .

- Participating  in managers meetings and presenting needs and problems of staff , patient etc.

2. Decisional Activities

- Reviewing the situations under supervision unit to determine problems in healthcare services and to ensure quality of care provided.

- Developing a clear policy for the general purposes of the organization.

- Planning for implementation of caring standards.

- Participating and collaborating conferences to enhance the level of knowledge and professional skills.

Disturbance Handler

- Cooperating in nursing care in emergency situations .

- Constantly monitoring necessary measures to prevent infections , use and maintenance of disinfectants .

Resource Allocator  

- Preparing and setting up different schedules for each month .

- Delegation of works and assigning the tasks for staff.

- Maintaining ,  provision and control of equipments and tools in each work shift .

Negotiator

- Participating and collaborating in nursing research and applied research.

- Cooperating and accompany senior officials and inspection group visit and report them.

3. Informational activities.

Monitor

- Supervising and controlling the implementation of physician orders.

- Monitoring the overall activities of the units

Disseminator

- Planning and reporting the status of patient per shift.

- Cooperating with doctors when visiting the patients and providing necessary reports to them .

Spokesperson

- Associating and collaborating with hospital committees within director discretion.

   - Registering and reporting all the matters related to the unit to relevant officials .
