Answer #1

Contemporary approaches to leadership include transformational leadership, leader-member exchange, servant leadership, and authentic leadership. ... Its counterpart is the transactional leadership approach, in which the leader focuses on getting employees to achieve organizational goals.Leadership has been described as the behavior of an individual when directing the activities of a group toward a shared goal. The key aspects of the leadership role involves influencing group activities and coping with change. A difficulty when considering leadership of healthcare professionals is that most theories were not developed within a healthcare context but were usually developed for the business setting and then applied to healthcare. Published researches provide little evidence that such leadership initiatives are associated with improvements in patient care or organizational outcomes when applied in the healthcare setting.

Transformational Leadership

Transformational leadership theory is a recent addition to the literature, but more research has been conducted on this theory than all the contingency theories combined. The theory distinguishes between transformational and transactional leaders. Transformational leaders lead employees by aligning employee goals with the leader’s goals. Thus, employees working for transformational leaders start focusing on the other health workers well-being rather than on what is best for them as individual health worker . However, transactional leaders ensure that the subordinates demonstrate the right behaviors because the health leader provides resources in exchange. So this leadership helps the health worker to provide care to the patient to the maximum with the co-workers.

Transactional leadership

Contingent rewards mean rewarding employees for their accomplishments. Active management by exception involves leaving employees to do their jobs without interference, but at the same time proactively predicting potential problems and preventing them from occurring. Passive management by exception is similar in that it involves leaving employees alone, but in this method, the health manager should wait until something goes wrong before coming to the rescue.

A contemporary leader can uses personal influence to develop and inspire people to achieve organizational goals and make a difference in the community. Because a contemporary leader doesn't have to routinely disrupt a team's off-hours time to get the job done
