PROPOFOL:
Drug class: General anaesthetic
Dosage: 10mg/ml injection , emulsion 200mg/20ml
Mechanism of action: propofol works by increasing GABA mediated
inhibitory neurotransmitter in the CNS. They decrease the rate of
dissociation of GABA there by increasing their duration of action,
resulting in opening of chlorine channel thereby enhancing the
hyperpolarisation.
Interaction: serious interactions with Ceritinib, doxapram,
epinephrine, fentanyl.
Side effects: Hypotension, bradycardia are common. Uncommon side effects include abnormal ECG, arrhythmia, pulmonary oedema etc.
Contraindication: patient with hypersensitivity to propofol, liver and kidney disorders epileptic patients.
Nursing alert: patient should not receive propofol if he or she is allergic to it. Get all the information regarding the patient health like if they have epilepsy, high cholesterol or liver/kidney disorders.
