Operating room cycle is described mainly as 3 phases.Pre surgery,surgery and post surgery.

  • First step in OR cycle is observing an quantifying the key components of OR cycle and time frame for each like the start time, time for starting and ending carbolization of OT,Operating room and trolley set up.
  • The main steps in OR cycle are Patient transfer, ID check and preparation of area, maintaining strile field,donning of PPE, administration of anesthesia, surgery,transfer to recovery, cleaning and sterilisation of OR and equipments, transfer from recovery to specified department is the OR cycle.
  • Maintaining the sterile field throughout the cycle is important for patient safety.
  • Surgical technologist also called as OT technician is the incharge of Operating room. They are also responsible for handling and care of OR equipment.
  • They are also responsible for the setting up of OR for surgery,assisting the surgeon and anesthetologist too.
  • OR technicians are also resposible for ensuring proper positioning of patients in the pre,intra and post operative phases.
