1. It is a hollow tube made up of plastic, Its size ranges from 4 Fr to 40 Fr.
2. It is otherwise known as a thoracostomy tube or Thoracic catheter.
3. Chest tubes are used to drain blood, air, and fluids from the chest.
4. The procedure needed for Chest tube insertion is known as chest tube thoracostomy.
5. A chest tube drainage is needed in Pneumothorax, Hemothorax and pleural effusion, and pericardial effusion.
6. The major complication occurs due to chest tube insertion is Infection, injury to lungs, pneumothorax, the formation of blood clots, etc.
