AUTOLOGOUS BLOOD TRANSFUSION is using their own blood during a transfusion, blood is stored and transfused during surgery for future need.

During the transfusion of blood patient complains about itching, it can sign or symptom of allergic reactions. Then the nurse should do immediately:

• Stops the blood immediately.
• check the vitals, BP, pulse, respiration status immediately.
• Flush the normal saline if you notice more severe symptoms or changes in vitals if a severe allergic reaction is there.
• Administer antihistamine as per doctor ordered.
• notify the physician immediately.
• keep the vein open, administer oxygen if needed and serious side effects occur.
• Recheck the blood bag and its component, match patient, name, and ID number.
• Notify blood bank department if transfusion is restarted or not, request for again checking the blood content of blood bag and patient blood.
