Healthcare enforcement is the continuous process of meeting or exceeding the legal, ethical , and professional requirements that apply to a specific agency or provider of healthcare services. Compliance with healthcare requires healthcare organisations and providers to develop clear processes, policies and procedures to identify acceptable behaviour, train personnel in the organisation and then track adherence to the processes, policies, and procedures. Healthcare compliance includes various fields including, but not limited to, patient care, billing, insurance, contracting for managed care, OSHA, Joint Healthcare Organizations Accreditation Commission and, to name a few, HIPAA Privacy and Protection.

· A health-care organisation's governing body is responsible for the organisation 's actions. Consequently, the Healthcare organisation's governing body and executive officers may assume sole responsibility for the enforcement or lack of compliance of a healthcare organisation.

• The governing body of the organisation shall be responsible for directing the managers of the organisation to establish and enforce the enforcement programme of the organisation, as well as approving funds to execute the task.

• The regulatory body must depend on the individuals in the healthcare organisation to achieve the aims of the company and its objectives of compliance. To establish and execute the enforcement plan, the regulatory body will be expected to rely on the compliance officer and the compliance committee.

• While the regulatory body, the compliance officer and the enforcement committees are mainly responsible for the enforcement programme of the company, each employee of the organisation is responsible for compliance with healthcare and compliance programmes in their own way.

• Individual members of the company can and should disclose any concerns about healthcare enforcement which they have within the chain of command. Not only should these individual members of the company express complaints within their respective areas of responsibility, they should also disclose something that seems out of the ordinary, irregular or controversial.

• Every person in the healthcare organisation is responsible for the effectiveness of the compliance programme, because deficiencies in the compliance programme will affect any member of the organisation. Imposing sanctions in the millions of dollars is common and those sanctions affect even large organisations.
