Simulation Based Assessment
Simulation is a strategy to replicate clinical scenario with guided experiences in a fully interactive way or it is an artificial representation of a real clinical process to achieve educational goals through experiential learning. Simulation based medical and nursing education helps the students to take proper decisions at the time practical exposure. In nursing, simulation will provide more learning opportunity than lecturing. Iam going to write on simulation based assessment of pre and post-operative care
Procedure 1 : Pre - Operative care
Learning Outcomes: The purpose of this simulation is to improve the understanding of preoperative nursing procedures in nursing students
Steps:
1. Go through teaching materials on pre -operative care shared by the faculty (theory of the preoperative care )
2. Attend pre -test provided by the faculty
3. Begins with as students report nurses station and will check patient case records and will get history of patients from staff nurses
4. Reach near the patient side and start communication with patient (depends up on patients condition)
5. Then history collection and physical examination
6. Assessment of IV lines, NPO status
7. Preparation of patient for surgery ( hair removal etc)
8. Monitor vital signs
9. Proper health education about post -operative care to patient and care givers
10. Prepare all records properly
11. Shift to Operation theatre
12. After this student will explain about the experience of simulaton and will do post test
Procedure 2 : Post - Operative care
Learning Outcomes: The purpose of this simulation is to improve the understanding of post -operative nursing procedures in nursing students
Steps:
1. Goe through teaching materials on pre -operative care shared by the faculty (theory of the post -operative care of the particular condition)
2. Attend pre -test provided by the faculty
3. Begins with as students report nurses station and will check patient case records and will get history of patients from staff nurses. Gone through the surgery history, procedure, Post -operative day status
4. Reach near the patient side and start communication with patient (depends up on patients condition)
5. Then physical examination
6. Assessment of IV lines, surgical wound, nutritional status, Drainage tube .Provide medicines
7. Simulated patient complaints about severe pain in the surgical area. Nurse will go through the daily dose of analgesics /weak opiods and will assess for any infection or fever
8. Nurse will call doctor and ask for any dose change or change in analgesics
9. Implement doctors order
10. Action plan to avoid severe pain
11. Hand over duty to next staff
12. After this student will explain about the experience and will do post test
