assignment of patient are depends upon need of care by patients, skill of the patient, position of the staff, employess policy and procedures and legal aspects of care. there are five rights which are considered while assigning duties to staff, they are right patient, right task, right circumstances, right directions and communication, right supervision.

Assignment to staff nurses by ward incharge is based on the planning which should attain objective. there are four main objectives. they are : is to provide the patient quality care: to provide assignment according to interest of the nurses and stimulating to their professional growth; is to provide all round education to  student nurses; is to attain good ward. A nursing team may be professional nurse or non professional

before assigning patients to staff, the charge nurse should know ability, qualification,knowledge and skill of the staff. this skills can be assessed by collecting past history of the staff and next step is that list type of activities which can be done by staff and assessing the ability of nurses and can provide assignment according to ability.

assigning and delegation of care under supervision

junior nurse are assigned  under the senior nurse. the junior nurse performs certain tasks under the supervison and guidance of senior nurse. but registered nurse take responsibility of care. the senior nurse educate, monitor, guide, support the junior nurse

functional methods of assignment: nurses are assigned to perform certain duties and certain care example are taking vitals signs to all patients, giving medication to all patients.

patient methods of assignment: here, staff are assigned to provide complete care to one or more patients example vitals signs, basic care, medication , nutrition, helath education

Team methods of assignment: is a new methods of assignment where two or more nursing staffs are assigned. senior nurse become leader of all staff. the team work together and give care to more patients.
