For the Endocrine body system:
-Identify the body system and describe that system’s function and essential components
-List and define THREE diseases associated with this body system
-discuss how aging impacts the body system you are writing about.
-Using the skills listed in the lab portion of your student manual, discuss and describe actions/interventions a Nurse Aide would utilize in working with clients that have this disease/diagnosis. Include the importance of why you would do these particular skills.
The endocrine system plays a very important role in the functioning of the body. It is a chemical messenger system that is responded for the transmission of different hormones.
There are many integral part of the endocrine system they are -
Pineal body
Pituitary
Thyroid and parathyroid.
Adrenal
Ovary etc.
Adrenal system: ot can be defined as a part of the endocrine system which plays a very important part.
It is known to produce cortisol, adrenaline, Aldosterone. It is located above the kidney. Iy consist of an outer cortex
Which produces steriodal hormones and an inner medulla. It produces Mineralocorticoids, gluco corticoid, and androgens.
Diseases -
The diseases may include hyperaldosteronism, cushing syndrome, adrenocortical carcinoma.
Hyperaldosteronism may occur due to an increase in aldosterone secretion.
Cushing syndrome- Cushing syndrome may occur due to an increase in cortisol secretion.
Adrenocortical carcinoma- Cancerous tumor that may grow on the outer part of the adrenal.
Aging effects-
Aging may cause changes in the functioning of the adrenal system. Therr may be an increase in glucocorticoid, decrease in adrenal and androgen level.
Nursing care-
1) hyperaldosteronism-
Necessary intervention may include education regarding removal of gland , as the hyper production is due to increase in gland secretion.
Aldosterone blocking drugs may help in management which may include spironolactone.
Education regarding life style management plays a very important role limitations in alcohol consumption, reduced salt intake, excercise may help in management process.
2) Cushing syndrome-
The patient may be advised to undergo pituitary irradiation.
There may also be many pharmacological management which includes cortisol therapy, adrenal enzyme inhibitors.
Assess the mental status of the patient for any signs of anxiety due to progression of illness.
Decresing tue patient risk for injuries.
Decreasing risk for fall
Educate skin care and prevention of infections.
3) adrenal Cortical carcinoma
Assess the status of the patient to obtain baseline data.
Provide counselling to the patient time reduce anxiety.
Educate patient to maintain hygiene role prevent infection
Assess the viatal status to predict the vital state.
Ensure use of aseptic techniques to prevent infection.
