Code of ethics is a statement that describes an organization's ideals and values.Enforcing the code of ethics maintains the integrity of profession and establishes a fair set of practices.

Methods for enforcement of code of ethics are :

• Developing and communicating the work place ethics and steps to resolve a dilemma
• Communicate with the employees the consequences of disobeying the professional code of ethics that may include reprimand,termination or law suits.
• Displaying the code of ethics in the organization as a constant reminder to the employees
• Formation of a code of ethics committee will help in monitoring the enforcement related issues in the organization.

Code of ethics for Pharmacists:

Code of ethics for pharmacist serves as the fundamental basis of roles and responsibilities a pharmacist is bound to.

1. A Pharmacist must respect the mutual relationship between the pharmacist and the patient: Pharmacist must respect the trust shown towards them by the society and must work for the welfare of the society by enabling them to achieve maximum benefits from the prepared medication.

2.A Pharmacist must promote welfare of each patient: He must be caring, compassionate as well as confidential with facts. He should consider individual needs as well as the actual health care need as per their disease condition.

3. A Pharmacist must be competent professionally: He must be updated with knowledge and advances in the field of pharmacology. A Pharmacist must posses knowledge and skills with the technological advances in his field of concern.

4.A Pharmacist must respect the dignity of patients: A Pharmacist must acknowledge the right for autonomy and dignity. He must encourage patient participation in health care decision making. He must respect the cultural differences. He must also communicate with the client's in simple understandable language and clarify their doubts.

5.A Pharmacist must posses the quality of honesty and trustworthiness: A Pharmacist must be impartial in his services and should act towards the well being of his clients without discrimination in any means. He should be truthful and must act conscientiously.

6. A Pharmacist must respect his colleagues: He must respect the abilities of his coworkers including other health care team members. He must not hesitate to ask for help or reference in case of patient's health care needs.

7. A Pharmacist must serve for the good of individual,community and society: Though the primary responsibility of a pharmacist is individual client, when there is need for extension of services towards the society he must be willing to perform his duties willfully.

8. A Pharmacist must ensure fair and equitable distribution of resources: While allocating the resources, he must ensure that it is done in such a way that the individual and societal needs are met equally and in a balanced manner.
