Mononucleosis or “the kissing disease” is a infectious disease caused by Epstein-Barr virus. The disease got it's name as it is said to be spread through kissing or saliva exchange while eating or drinking. Signs and symptoms include sore throat, swollen lymph nodes, fatigue, fever, chills, malaise, body ache, headache, nausea or loss of appetite. The illness is very uncommon in older patients and generally the elderly may not have typical symptoms. Treatments include lots of rest, substitute fluid, pain killers and fever-reducing medication.
