Homework Answers

Answer #1

Disorder of acid base balance are classified according to their cause, and the direction of the pH change , into respiratory acidosis, metabolic acidosis , respiratory alkalosis , metabolic alkalosis .

1. METABOLIC ACIDOSIS ---

pH -- decrease

[ H+]-- increase

Primary disturbance -- decrease [ Hco3-]

Secondary response-- decrease pco2

2. METABOLIC ALKALOSIS --

pH -- increase

[H+]-- decrease

Primary disturbance --increase [Hco3-]

Secondary response --increase pco2

3. RESPIRATORY ACIDOSIS--

pH-- decrease

[H+]-- increase

Primary disturbance -- increase Hco3-

Secondary response-- increase pco2

4. RESPIRATORY ALKALOSIS --

pH-- increase

H+-- decrease

Primary disturbance-- decrease HCO3-

Secondary response-- decrease pco2
