The maximum of 10 scores get.
The significance of testing APGAR score after 1 min of birth is to identify how the newborn tolerated with birth process and 5min score determine the newborn tolerance to outer world or outside the womb.
As we said the maximum score that we obtain in APGAR scoring is 10 and upto 7 is considered as normal and it says baby is healthy and no interventions needed. A score of 4 to 6 means there is moderate depression present and need observation. Score below 3 considered as baby need immediate resuscitation.
In most of the cases the APGAR score improved at 5 min test than 1 min.
Newborn with APGAR less than 7 need medical attention and we need to keep the baby under observation in NICU until the condition become normal.
