if 200 mg of a drug results in plasma concentration of 10 mg/L what is the calculated volume of distribution (VD) ?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Answer: Volume of distribution (VD) is a measurement of how a drug is dispersed in the body related to the measured plasma concentration .It is calculated by the amount of the drug in the body divided by the plasma concentration.

VD iused to determine the loading dose of a drug, the half-life of a drug, medication clearance, and drug toxicity.

The formula to calculate volume distribution (VD)

VD = Total amount of drug in the body / Drug blood plasma concentration

Total amount of drug = 200 mg

Plasma concentration = 10mg/L

200/10 = 20L

Drug T was administered (iv) to a volunteer, and urine was collected after 60 minutes. The concentration of T in urine was 10 mg/ml, and the volume of urine was 30 mls. Blood was drawn, and the concentration of T in plasma was determined to be 0.04 mg/ml.             a) Calculate the renal clearance of T.             b) Based on the answer you calculated for part a, what mechanism(s) are involved in renal clearance of T?
