Merchatilism means the way in which economy is carried out by trading and marketing. Navigation act is a part of trading and marketing adopted by English law in England to regulate trading, exporting, importing and marketing products.

This law was mainly used for controlling the trading and economy in the colonial period. The law mainly gave approval for trading in the respective colonies. The foreigners are restricted by the law for trading in the English colonies. It also controlled English ship, shipping and commerce. The major change in the law happened during 18th century by approving colonial revenue. It made tremendous change it the shipping and commerce of the colonial period.
