Answer: Factor V Leiden heritable blood clotting disorder. This disorder cause abnormal blood clots that block blood vessels. The patient is subjected to standard therapy of anticoagulation for three to six months with full Warfarin dose. However, right dose has to be provided.

The 29-year-old female has been diagnosed with Factor V Leiden. She is currently taking Warfarin 4 mg a day. To adjust the patient’s Warfarin dose, the INR values that would be warranted is 1.7. The standard INR value for the first check if the patient is taking 2.5 – 5 mg daily is 1.5-1.9.

INR stands for International Normalized Ratio. This is a blood test that determines how well the blood clots. INR is a standardized number. Warfarin is a blood thinner or anti-clotting medicine, that is used in vitro to check the blood clotting status.
