A health maintenance organization (HMO) is a network or organization that provides health insurance coverage for a monthly or annual fee. At first was opposition from organized medicine. Leaders in the American Medical Association (AMA) and it's affiliates believed that cooperative health plans would violate the integrity of medical decision-making and provide inferior care. American Medical Association leaders also feared that there plans would leads to socialised medicine, which they whole-heartedly opposed.
