HAI is an infection that was not present at the time of admission and which develops within 48hrs of hospitalization, 3 days of discharge or in 30 days following a surgery and is also called Hospital Acquired Infection or Healthcare Associated Infection (HAI)

An infection that occurs in any part of the urinary system, kidney, ureter or bladder is called Urinary Tract Infection (UTI)

A nosocomial UTI is the infection in any part of the urinary tract, that occurs as a result of patient care procedures performed not following aseptic techniques.

Causes of nosocomial UTI:

E-coli is the common organism that causes UTI.

Urinary catheterization, spinal cord injury, diabetes mellitus and advanced age are the host factors that can lead to UTI in hospital setting.
