The cause is Baby-mother blood group incompatibility.

A positive DAT means that there are antibodies attached to the RBCs. ... The DAT detects the presence of the antibody.

The antibodies are Anti A ,Anti E ,Anti Fya antibodies developed in foetus due to incompatibility.Maternal-fetal incompatibilities within the Duffy blood group system is seen.The anti-RhE antibody is quite common especially in the Rh genotype CDe/CDe; it usually only causes a mild hemolytic disease, but can cause a severe condition in the newborn.The primary mechanism of K HDFN is due to maternal anti-K antibody actually suppressing the fetal production of RBCs, rather than hemolysis of mature fetal RBCS as seen in ABO and Rh HDFN. With reduced hemolysis, amniotic fluid bilirubin levels also do not correlate well with the degree of anemia.
