For this discussion, read the vignettes below. Think about the following question: How does where you live impact how you live—and how you fall ill?

  • Mrs. X is an inactive, overweight white female in her late 50s. She was born and raised in Georgia in a low-income family, and was recently diagnosed with diabetes.
  • Y is a five-year-old located in sub-Saharan Africa. It has been particularly wet, hot, and humid this year, and Y has just fallen ill with malaria. Malaria is preventable and treatable, but Y's family does not have the money for the treatment.

Think about the social and behavioral determinants and disparities that are present in these scenarios, and think about the impact they have. Then, in your initial post, address the following:

  • If you could change one aspect of the biographies presented above, what would it be, and what impact would it have?

Answer #1

Think about the social and behavioral determinants and disparities that are present in these scenarios, and think about the impact they have

1st scenario

Mrs X has an inactive lifestyle that resulted in diabetes. However she lives in a modern world all health fecilities are present. For her treatment won't be a nightmare since most of them are covered with health insurance.

Consequently there is no disparities in her life and treatment.she can certainly get better.

It doesn't bring much impact to her life since her socioeconomic backgrounds are great.

2nd scenario

Y is having maleria, it is caused by mosquitoes usually associated with an unhygienic circumstances.

Since the Saharan Africa region is lacking many fecilities mainly health care services. As a result it would be a hard task Y to get appropriate medical treatment.

Moreover their economic background isn't in good shape hence opting private hospitals isn't a choice.

Due to the disparities and poor socioeconomic backgrounds Y would be a victim of improper medical treatments. maleria is preventable and treatable but absence of treatment can be fatal.

If you could change one aspect of the biographies presented above, what would it be, and what impact would it have?

I would love to change the pathetic medical and socioeconomic backgrounds of the people of Sahara region. Since everybody deserve a quality in this world.

The impact would be a "healthy world with no disparities" .
