A patient is given 2 ounces of medication q.8.h. for 7 days. Using apothecary measurements, how many total fluid drams is this?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Step 1: Change from ounce to drams

1 ounce = 30 drams

Step 2: Identify drams for 2 ounce

For 2 ounce, multiply the 30 drams by 2

= 2 x 30 drams = 60 drams

hence, 60 drams of fluid are administered in one dose.

Sterp 3: If you want to identify for 24 hours then, multiply the 60 drams by 3 because it is advice to administer 8 hoursly that is 3 times you have to administer.

=60 x 3 = 280 drams

hence 280 drams/ day should be administered.

Step 4: For 7 days, multiply the drams/ day by 7

= 280 x 7

= 1960 drams/ 7 days

hence, 1960 drams should be administer in 7 days.
