PART A: In your own words describe the physiological significance of the FEV1/FVC ratio.
PART B: Why do you think the forced vital capacity is less than the vital capacity?
PART C: How would the 74-year-old woman's breathlessness affect her ability to exhale forcefully? What effect would this have on her test results?
1. The FEV1/FVC ratio is a measurable amount of air you can forcefully exhale from your lungs. FEV1 is forced expiratory volume in one second ,it is the volume of breath exhale with effort in Timeframe .FVC forced vital capacity is the full amount of air that can be exhaled with effort in a complete breath
Part B_ forced vital capacity can be decreased temporaryly or permanently .A diminished FVC value is sign of several conditions. Including chronic bronchitis ,emphysema, bronchiactasis. Restrictive airway disease such as idiopathic fibrosis.
Part C - in aged people decline in llungcapacity .muscles like the diaphragm can get weaker .lung tissue that helps keep airway open can lose elasticity.
Airway get smaller it affect ability to exhale forcefully. In test results shows shortness of breath
