It is appropriate for all adults , children and even babies

It is calculated by dividing weight in pound by height in inches and multiplying by conversion factor of 703

A BMI of 18.5 to 24.9 is considered to be within normal limits

Appropriate to use

  • In weight management
  • For administering certain medications ( cancer drug)
  • For surgeries ( calculating the anesthetic drug dose)
  • Medical illness
  • Malnourished patient

Inappropriate to use

  • For cosmetic purpose
  • Any incurable life endangering treatment
