1. erick erickson stages of psychosocial devlopment consist of 8 stages which focus on dvelopment of confidence to evolve as the member of the community but failure to achieve this stage leads to feelings of inadequacy. the psychosocial development that occurs in the age of 1 1/2 to 3 years (toddler) is autonomy versus shame and doubt where the child is in a phase of doing it by own.

2. second stage autonomy versus shame and doubt:

during toddler period, child try to attain independence through exploring the external world.if a parent is punishing or using harsh methods to control the child, it would lead to low self esteem thereby shame and doubt in child.

example: the child may try to dress and groom for self by combing hair, doing brushing , make up in inorder to achieve independence, but if the parent scolds multiple times without giving rationale, the child may be doubtful about one's own abilities.
