Yes. The EMB medium inhibits the growth of gram negative cocci.
EMB consist of dyes eosin and methylene blue that ensure the growth of gram-positve bacteria. So, EMB is selective for the gram negatives. Also , the gram-negatives that grow can be evolved based on the ability to ferment lactose. When bacterial cells ferment lactose, acid which is produced precipitates the dyes in the medium and the colonies develop a green metallic sheen.
